ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY
Industrial Molinera de la Habana is located in the vicinity of the bay of Havana, a privileged location, but at the same time of great responsibility, since this site, of high patrimonial value, was declared by the National Commission of Monuments as a protection zone.
The beautiful bay, with a lot of history to tell, is the anchorage for the unloading of the ships that transport the main raw material for our productions. Protecting it and contributing to its preservation is part of our daily performance, which is based on an environmental strategy that is an essential tool for the implementation of our company’s environmental policy.
Our principles and actions are aimed at mitigating the effects on the environment, foreseeing and minimising the impacts, for which we work on the introduction of continuous improvements in the production process, to contribute to reduce the negative impacts on the environment. Constant training is essential in order to comply with environmental regulations, starting with the implementation of the NC ISO 14001: 2015 Environmental Management System. The company’s employees are dedicated to this task.
Our main objectives and goals are:
- To ensure that the milling equipment complies with the condition of cleaner production practices, in order to minimise the generation of waste that affects the environment.
- Collect 100% of solid waste, which must be deposited in the appropriate containers, according to their classification.
- Maintain measures for the rational use of water, eliminating all leaks.
- Pour all water used for the hygiene of workers and facilities into the drains so that it is directed to the septic tank.
- Maintain the use of raw materials, materials and spare parts at the intended levels and destinations, avoiding their disposal in non-established places.
- Minimise flour emissions into the atmosphere to the maximum extent possible.
We have achieved the environmental goal of mitigating the negative impact of waste into the Bay of Havana by intensifying the cleaning of the septic tank and, through the State Working Group of the Bay of Havana, an entity with which we collaborate, the Centre for Research and Environmental Management of Transport (CIMAB) in charge of monitoring liquid waste, measuring gauging and determining the pollutant load in facilities in the Havana Bay basin, an evaluation and characterisation of waste is carried out. Our industry is classified as non-polluting, a condition we work daily to maintain.
It is our priority to achieve cleaner production.
